| The weld will work if you take a wire brush and drill to take off the coating right around the hole. But instead of welding it to the manifold, weld the right size nut to the manifold (but thread the egt through both when welding so you know the threads line up). Then just put another nut on the egt itself before you thread it back in. You can then tighten this nut against the other one to lock the egt in place. That way you can still replace the egts if you ever have to.
